About John Steele

I’m a law enforcement professional of over two decades with newly developed expertise across network and cyber security. I’m proud of my long and accomplished career with the Longmont Police Department, where I worked most recently as a Detective to analyze and investigate criminal cases, achieving a 90% personal caseload closure rate. As I prepare to retire, I took on a new challenge by pursuing a Master of Science degree in Computer Science with a focus on Cybersecurity. I’ve gained an extensive skill set across the full scope of network security and software engineering. My education provided my with the hands-on technical experience to develop proficiency across a range of software and techniques including vulnerability detection and response, network traffic analysis, forensic imaging, and governance risk and compliance. I always enjoyed analyzing cellphone extraction data to aid in tracking crime suspects and hope to continue using an analytical mindset towards troubleshooting issues and developing strategic solutions. I complement my technical expertise with an impeccable interpersonal skill set that I’ve honed for many years. I’ve served as a results-driven leader and paired a strong attention to detail with a focus on big picture results. In the same way that I’ve helped uncover, assess, and analyze legal evidence, I look forward to working in collaborative environments to guarantee an optimal network security posture; I’ve also proven adept at passing on my knowledge to others through training and mentorship.
