About John Stennes

I am currently a third year PhD Candidate in the Counseling Psychology Program at the University of Denver. My career goal is to become a Counseling Psychologist, focusing my work in gender-affirming care, trauma disorders, and disordered eating in adolescents and young adults who seek treatment. Part of this focus will include primarily working with those in the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and other intersecting historically-marginalized groups as they face more non-traditional hardships, and are in need of more resources to help overcome adversity. I hope to further the field of psychology’s understanding of queer psychology through research and teaching in a way that will benefit the larger community, as teaching those who may not fully understand mental health is important as well. Having experience in the field, teaching, and in research, I am well-versed in collaborating with a team, adaptable and confident in my ability to handle unpredictable situations, and am focused on driving towards success.
