About John Stivers

I've been in various educational roles since the early 1990s, with a focus on bringing people together to plan for and implement improvement in educational programming. After more than a decade of administration and coordination at the state level, I finally fulfilled my childhood dream of teaching high school English. After 13 years in the classroom, I have returned to administration with an opportunity to serve students and staff at the building level and to help transform a regional secondary Career and Technical Education (CTE) school into a full-service, four-year comprehensive high school incorporating CTE pathways as a central feature. I am motivated to help create the conditions for our organization's success by marshaling the good will of its participants and tapping into the motivations that help us succeed in service to a powerful shared vision for education. This effort requires experiences, skills, and belief in a compelling vision-all of which I have collected and applied in my years in education-that include strategic planning and implementation; working knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and procedures; the ability to bring people together to create and work efficiently toward a common vision; a belief in the dignity of every person; the ability and willingness to have, and to listen and respond effectively to, difficult conversations; and the exercise of prudent, not-too-fast judgement in concert with the power of urgency.
