Background
About John Stock
40 years experience in many aspects of Mechanical Engineering R&D, design, construction, test and analysis/evaluation of shock hardened structures, missiles, etc. Involved with numerous nuclear and conventional weapons tests, blast effects and survivability at the Nevada Test Site and Los Alamos National Labs. Developed multi-flow Eulerian-Lagrangian codes to simulate early time (< 2 msec) detonation of nuclear devices, developed high-temperature equations-of-state, and spectral radiation profiles for simulating blast environments. Lead engineer for a large diameter shock tube radiation simulation system at Aberdeen Proving Ground. Systems design lead for construction of an electro-thermal-chemical gun and variolous rail gun R&D projects. Designed, fabricated, and fielded a Thermal Radiation Chamber for simulating soil reactions to various thermal radiation. Performed stress analysis on Minuteman II missiles, performed research and experiments for methods to protest missiles from radiation environments. The last 25 years work dedicated to supporting programs for NAVAIR/NSWC/Navy, primarily supporting the equipment design and testing for the Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) and the Advanced Arresting Gear (AAG) programs for CVN 78. Efforts included post-contract award requirements identification, through actual equipment design, fabrication, and testing. Led test efforts in T&E group for environmental, vibration, and shock test efforts. This included performing numerous MIL-STD-810 environmental and MIL-S-901D/MIL-DTL-901E "barge tests" on EMALS and AAG equipment. I served as the NAVSEA/NAVAIR interface for a majority of the shock planning and coordination between test facilities located in VA. Acted as re-design lead for CG 47 SmartShip program to resolve shock deficiencies in the entire Machinery Control System. Lead design/test engineer for integration of all electronic equipment aboard LPD 17. Assumed role of Shock/Environmental Lead performed cabinet-level shock and vibration analyses, planned MIL-S-901D and MIL-STD-167-1A tests. Performed barge tests on majority of ALRE equipment including 48 ton generator. At Raytheon, acted as Company rep for SPAWAR/Enidine/Raytheon active shock isolation systems (ISMS) and "rafting" efforts for shock-isolating ship deck sections and barge testing. Licensed mechanical Professional Engineer state of CA (31317-M). Active DoD Secret clearance, inactive CNWDI (Critical Nuclear Weapon Design Information) and secure computing (COMSEC) clearances.
