About John Thornton

I’ve spent my career bringing creative ideas to life, leading teams, and managing high-profile projects in the visual effects and media industry. I work with the best in the business, oversee global 2D teams, and deliver standout work for international clients. I’m passionate about fostering innovation, building strong client relationships, and mentoring the next generation of creatives. At RASCAL, I lead a cross-disciplinary team that blends creativity and technological innovation to set new benchmarks in visual effects for commercials — work that has earned consistent industry recognition. My approach combines strong design principles, inclusive design practices, and user-centred thinking to create visual content that communicates clearly and engages diverse audiences. The essence of my professional journey lies in fostering emerging talent, as demonstrated during my mentorship with the Creative Mentor Network, where I helped break down barriers to entry in the creative sector. I have also pioneered global collaboration systems, worked in agile, multidisciplinary environments, and built trusted partnerships across time zones to deliver consistent, high-quality outputs. My commitment is to the continuous elevation of our craft, leveraging creative collaboration and direction to inspire teams towards groundbreaking achievements.
