I'm excited to share that I've been promoted to a Director Level position at AT & T and my new role is the Lead Current Planner for my Vice President's organization. I'm now in charge of Integrated Technology Planning and Transition, from Concept to Production for all layers and networks under my Vice President. My job entails working with all teams in our organization and partnering with the Research Labs, Network Architecture, Fundamental Planning, Global Supply Chain, Field Technical Services (Tier 3) and NetOps (Tier 1 & 2) to ensure we are developing, certifying, purchasing and deploying the most efficient and cost effective technology into the multiple layer networks under my Vice President. I will continue to share capital management responsibility for the L3 group but will be working very closely with all other capital managers in our organization to ensure we are putting the right technology at the right cost in the right locations at the right time. For some time I will continue with my previous responsibilities until such time the transition is complete and I can dedicate all my time focusing on ensuring we are successful in transitioning new technology and existing technology upgrades into our networks. Previous responsibilities as Area Manager for the L3 IP Common Backbone (CBB) team. In addition to managing a team of seasoned Network Planning Engineers, my responsibilities include developing the CBB yearly Plan of Record (POR), modeling, documenting and supporting the annual success budget requirements for the CBB, developing tactical and strategic plans for the network capacity augments, upgrades and topography expansions/changes and planning the deployment of new technologies and architectures. I assist the L3 CBB Technical Research Labs and the Fundamental Planning group in the development of long term plans for the network evolution, the incorporation of new features and services and the implementation of new technologies. I also work closely with the Corporate Real Estate team to ensure alignment of the L3 CBB space/power/cooling requirements and the efficient use of capital for infrastructure development and support. Under my direction, the L3 Current Planning team has achieved savings of over $20M per year in the last 5 years by efficient use of the installed network capacity, applying aggressive engineering rules and designing recycling platforms for the re-use of router hardware.
