About John Wargo
John Wargo currently holds the Tweed-Ordway Chair as Professor of Environmental Health and Politics at Yale University. He is also Professor of Political Science, and Chair of the Yale College Environmental Studies Major and Program. He earned a B.A, University of Pennsylvania; M.L.A. University of Massachusetts, and both MPhil and PhD at Yale. Professor Wargo has participated in several National Academy of Sciences committees. He has testified before Senate and House Committees, and been an advisor to the White House, the World Health Organization, the Food and Agriculture organization, USDA, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. He has participated in the design of international, federal, state, and local laws and regulations intended to reduce human exposures to pesticides, air pollution, plastics, mercury, and endocrine-disrupting chemicals. He recently wrote the book Green Intelligence: Creating Environments that Protect Human Health published by Yale Press. The book won the Independent Publishers Award of Gold Medal in the field of “Environment, Ecology, and Nature” for 2010. 24 lectures associated with this book are publicly accessible as part of the Open Yale Course program on the Internet. http://oyc.yale.edu/environmental-studies/evst-255. He also wrote Our Children’s Toxic Legacy: How Science and Law Fail to Protect Us from Pesticides, published by Yale Press, presenting a history of law and science governing pesticides. The book won the American Association of Publishers award as the Best Scholarly & Professional Book in Government and Political Science. He is also co-author of Ecosystems: Science and Management published by Springer-Verlag. He is currently writing a book entitled "The Future of Food", exploring environmental and health challenges posed by the global food system and opportunities for reform.
