EDUCATION & WORK BACKGROUND Born in London, educated in the UK. John qualified as a Registered Mental Health Nurse in 1988 and worked in a number of London based clinical services before transitioning to an academic career. He holds a PhD from King's College London, is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and a Fellow Ad Eundem of the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery Royal College of Surgeons Ireland. John lives in County Kilkenny and works in Waterford City, Ireland. He is Head of the Faculty of Health Science (Waterford) at South East Technological University, where he also sits on the Executive Management Team. EXPERTISE An active researcher and writer with expertise in Policy and Systems Analysis;Quality Improvement in clinical services; the relationship of Work Related Stress with Work Engagement and supporting stressed workers through ICT based interventions. Methods expertise includes Case Study Design; Soft Systems Analysis, Participatory Research and Frameworks Analysis. John has been awarded research grants as both principal investigator or collaborating researcher to the value of: €3,461,273; £77,500 (Ir) and £5,180(stg). NATIONAL PROFILE John has served on various Irish national advisory committees in the health and nursing arena, including as a board member of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland; the undergraduate review of nurse education; the national research strategy for nursing and the national advisory panel on drugs (training subcommittee). In addition he was chairperson of the nursing panel for the Undergraduate Awards in 2011 and 2012. He currently is a member of the National Research Ethics Committee for Clinical Trials. John is a visiting professor at University College Dublin. INTERNATIONAL ENGAGEMENT John is a visiting Professor in Nursing at King's College London and a Visiting Professor Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Maribor; a Senior Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow;International Ambassador Vision 20/20 initiative, Drexel University, USA; Review panel member, Division of Humanities and Social Sciences Swiss National Science Foundation.
