About John Witjes
John was appointed to the role of Associate Vice-Principal (Facilities) in September 2014. He joined the university in 1991 and has held a number of progressive positions within the Facilities portfolio since then. John is a Queen’s graduate (B.Sc.’86) and a Licensed Professional Engineer. In 2014 he graduated from the Rotman Executive Leadership Program and in 2004 he completed the University Management Course (UMC) from the University of Manitoba. John has held the Chair position for both the province’s Independent Electricity System Operator’s (IESO) Stakeholder Advisory Committee (3 yrs.) and the Ontario Association of Physical Plant Administrator’s (OAPPA) Energy Committee (5 yrs.) representing all universities in Ontario. He is also currently Past President of OAPPA and serving a two year term. During his time with Queen’s, John has developed a comprehensive understanding of campus facilities and support infrastructure. He has excelled in the areas of facilities management and operations, labour relations, and project management and has served on numerous university committees.
