About John Young

As a senior architect with 25 years of broad based experience I have honed my expertise as a Project Architect, Project Manager, and Consulting Architect. During my career, I've enjoyed leading design teams on more than 60 successful (on time and on budget) religious, school, local government, federal government, and corporate projects in PA, NJ, NY, and MA. MY BELIEF: What we design does not have to be expensive but it must be a sustainable asset for generations to come. MY APPROACH: Keep it simple. Keep it buildable. Keep it sustainable and energy efficient. MY GOALS: To go beyond clients’ needs and inspire the people who occupy/use the built environment, adding value to their life’s experiences and inspiring them to enjoy and perform at their best. MY BROAD BEGINNINGS: • Having grown up in a construction-oriented family and a farming community, I developed skills as a resourceful and creative problem solver, working with tools—and whatever was available—to get the job done. • My first job started as soon as I could man a shovel and carry a jack in my father’s construction business (Walter G. Young House Moving) lifting, rigging, and moving buildings. • During and after college, I gained experience in: site construction; landscape design/installation; interior renovations/design; industrial facilities management; and an architectural intern. MY EXPERTISE: • Expert knowledge of construction assemblies and practical constructability. • Reputation as building code specialist. Possess keen understanding of the underlying intent/purpose behind the code language. Result: solid record of building designs compliant with first, L&I Fire and Panic Code; then, BOCA; ADA (civil rights); and IBC model building code. • Create strong, trusting relationships with clients. Readily foster public consensus and consent. • Effective Construction Administration and Project Management resulting in construction document compliance.
