About Johnathan Solomon

Planet, People, Profit— these are my personal pillars of environmentalism that guide me in my goal of working as an environmental policy analyst and climate economist. My four passions in life are (1) the environment,(2) education,(3) art, and (4) business. Exploring the intersection between these passions has been my journey for the past four years as an undergraduate at CSUSB and beyond. • Environment: My time competing in Model United Nations and interning with the Panetta Institute of Public Policy, alongside my ongoing work as a Mellon Mays Fellow, have cultivated my abilities in public speaking, research, and policy analysis. I have volunteered nearly 100 hours amongst several environmental organizations both on and off campus: principally with the Rivers & Lands Conservancy, Citizens Climate Lobby, and S.A.G.E.S. • Education: I have worked as an educator for the past two years. During this time I have worked with students as young as five and as old as fifty-five, and have covered topics from basic addition to contemporary political controversies. My passion for teaching informs my belief that science communication and civic education are cornerstones of the climate solution. • Art: Even as a high school senior, I understood that art was a unique medium for advocacy. In 2017, I created the Etiwanda Arts Association to empower teens to find their political voice through art. I am working to conjoin my work as an activist and as an artist to engage my community. • Business: The notion that capitalism and environmentalism oppose one another is severely misinformed. My coursework in personal finance, climate economics, and economic theory have shown me that strong climate policy is advised not only by science but also by the market. My goal as a climate economists is to promote sustainable industry practices, equitable climate legislation, and a just transition away from fossil fuels.
