What makes a great salesperson? It is said that luck matters a lot to a salesman. But what is luck? Louis Pasteur defined that “chance favours the prepared mind”. To me, being passionate and dedicated are the essential attributes, rather than simply doing nothing and waiting for miracles. Everyone is a salesman. We sold our parents for toys. We sold ourselves for a job offer and even a partner. There are some frameworks but never a formula. You may rely on experiences but instincts may help too. It can be the most fascinating at the same time the most challenging thing. It is all about interactions between human beings. And it is what I love to do. Warren Buffett once asked, “if you can buy 10% of one of your classmate’s earnings for the rest of their lifetime, how will you pick? “ It is not the one with the highest IQ, most wealth nor most energy. It is always “the generous and the honest one”. Let’s face it. I always have to meet targets. But I never give up the relationship in exchange for myopic deals. Never. Throughout my career, I have had many ups and downs, but I have never had any unpleasant experiences with my customers. They become my partners and friends. They always stand by me. Always. They do not buy because of “sales impulse” nor for mercy. Instead, they believe the orders can bring more values comparing to the opportunity costs. I know they do because I have been receiving orders. For sure, there are moments when people do not agree, be it limitations on time, budget or decision. But every NO just brings me one step closer to the final YES. It is my everyday motivation. I am Johnny Cheng, currently pursing success, nice to meet you.
