About Jolayne Marsh

My career allows me to dig deep into the roots of addiction and mental illness, from within some vastly different communities and populations, such as music festival attendees, exploited seniors, aboriginal women and street kids. I align with Dr. Bruce Alexander's Dislocation Theory of Addiction - I believe that connection to supportive community and engagement with satisfying work or craft are the solution to the growing problem of addiction, rather than interdiction efforts and criminalization of those in need of support. As such, I focus my work on community engagement, harm reduction and education. Development and advisory of drug policy, on either the federal, provincial or local level, is my long-term goal, but my goals keep shifting as I discover more about the science of addiction. My work in SFU's BA in Heath Science program focused on mental Health & addiction. I imagine myself pursuing an MA in Public Policy in the future. I give an engaging and informed public presentation, and am available for client and community educational training, employee skills-building workshops, & speaking engagements.
