About Jolene Waese

I am currently working at Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences on the Adolescent Eating Disorders Unit. I provide empathetic, compassionate, patient-centred and recovery-oriented care when supporting this population. I have developed de-escalation skills using Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT). I have attended a workshop on providing emotional coaching based on EFFT, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Dialectic Behaviour Therapy (DBT) to better serve this population. I also monitor the patient’s physical well being and report to the most responsible provider as needed. I have recently worked with Scarborough Health Network, Birchmount Site as a Registered Nurse on the Acute Mental Health Units. These are fast paced units and demands keen Mental Health Examination skills and an ability to develop a therapeutic relationship within a short time frame to effectively implement sensitive individual care plans with the patients. I work with patients with acute mental health issues such as Psychotic disorders, Mood disorders, Anxiety disorders, Suicide/Homicide, Personality Disorders, and Substance Abuse and Addictions. I also monitor patient’s physical health and provide appropriate interventions when required. I work effectively with a multi-disciplinary team to provide respectful and compassionate care to the patients and their families. I worked with Toronto Public Health as Public Health Nurse in the Healthy Babies Healthy Children program. As a Public Health Nurse, I provided case management services, through home visiting, to clients with diverse socio-economic and ethnocultural backgrounds. I planned and facilitated prenatal and postnatal programs at community centers and at a shelter. I provided Breast Feeding education and support during individual Home Visits and during programs such as the Canadian Prenatal Nutrition Program and When Baby Comes Home. I have provided education on prenatal, perinatal care, and birth control to clients. I also was a member of the SARS team which involved screening and monitoring community cases. I also have experience mentoring a Family Home Visitor. I am continuing my education in Mental Health. I am currently enrolled in Durham College for the Mental Health Nursing RN/RPN Certificate and the Children’s Mental Health Certificate.
