About Jon Burkhart

The safety movement was borne from two distinct needs. The first was basic: hurt workers are bad. Bad for the person, bad for production. Secondarily came the corporate need for increased safety and worker accountability: the costs related to having workers hurt on the job. From time lost to medical care, Workers compensation blossomed into its own industry that drains countless millions of dollars and hundreds of thousands of man hours annually from the American workforce. As an OSHA certified Trainer and a Safety Engineer, my job is to address safety and performance both proactively and reactively. Training people to work in the most safely efficient manner is the beginning – ensuring that classes and certifications are put in place and that worker understanding and compliance is happening. Once all staff understand the expectations of safety required of them, then the next step is to improve and implement best known practices – for efficiency and safety. This includes assessing consistent risk areas, reviewing accident data and creating real-world solutions that every person can be held accountable to. Over the course of my 25 year career in heavy industrial and specialty manufacturing, I have seen the right way to do things and near death experiences from the wrong way to do them – as a Safety Engineer, I am proud to say that no one has died on my watch.
