KingsRock Ltd – Development Management, Clients Representative, COO, Project Management A few words about me “Construction is what I know but building is what I love” Okay fair enough, that does sound like a strap line from a Lego movie but in my case, it describes both my experience and my passion. So far my career has had some distinct phases to it, the early years were spent mainly learning about construction, how things fit together, who does what and in what order. After that came the consolidation phase understanding how to be me in an industry that provides an almost unlimited routes from A to B depending on your personality, approach, and attitude. Then came the moment some of us long for and relish, I left the employed world to start up on my own business without the safety net of a well-structured company to support me. The journey that followed that decision allowed me to grow, meet some amazing people, work with some extremely talented colleagues and grow a respected sustainable construction consultancy with an old friend. Most importantly though, it helped me discover my “why”. In addition to a couple of decades of experience as a Quantity Surveyor / Project Manager, I also now have approaching 10 years’ experience as a small business owner, just over that as a husband and 6 years’ experience as a Dad. To date, I have worked on projects ranging from 50k to £178m in multiple sectors, have chosen 10 anniversary presents (with varying levels of success) and managed to get the kids get to school on time not wearing a Batman outfits at least twice. I have enjoyed different aspects of each and every project and challenge I have undertaken and excelled at a few along the way. The common denominator it turns out, is my drive to build. Not in the construction sense but by starting with a blank sheet of paper and creating a family, a culture, a team, a system or a process that everyone involved can be proud of. We come to work primarily to support those we love and ourselves but once this need is met, we are driven by the desire to contribute, to excel and to form bonds with those around us, it is the fulfilment of those desires that makes us all truly happy and it is the part I can play in the that fulfilment drives me. I am keen to move forward in the construction industry with this desire front and centre of all I do, if you feel I can assist in anyway with your projects, company, systems or culture I would love to be involved however I can.
