About Jon Davis

Jon H. Davis is an artist and photographer whose work reflects his love of the natural world, ancient arts, and global adventure. He was born in Mount Kisco, New York, spent his formative years in Westchester County, and summers in the Adirondacks, where he became an avid photographer at age 12. After formal studies at the Brooks Institute for Fine Art and Photography in Santa Barbara, California, he went on a two-year sojourn. Davis took photographs while driving across Europe and Asia in his Volkswagen bus, kayaking in the fjords of Norway, bicycling and boating through Holland, and elephant-riding in Sri Lanka. His travel assignments have taken him to five continents and many of his images have been published in a variety of national magazines. His photographs–including ships from the Indian Ocean, robots from Japan, food in Thailand, and totem poles in Canada–appeared in The Robb Report, Body & Soul, Global Rhythm, Spa Life, Real Wealth, and North American Inns among others. In addition to his vast inventory of photographs from around the world, Davis creates colorful artworks inspired by principles of sacred geometry and traditional Tibetan mandalas (cosmic maps of the universe). Working with his original process, which he calls “digital alchemy,” he transforms his photographs and paintings into contemporary mandalas incorporating elements, patterns, and textures from the natural world. These pieces are often infused with vibrant colors and patterns echoing the symmetry found in nature, as in the petals of a lotus flower, a butterfly’s wing, or concentric ripples on the surface of a pond.
