About Jon Erwin

Jon has over 30 years in the emergency management field. As a member of Valdez Fire Rescue, Jon was a Firefighter/EMT and also obtained certification as a Swift Water Rescue Technician, Mountain Rescue Technician and a PADI International Open Water Diver. With the Valdez Police Department he was certified Advanced SWAT by the FBI. Mr. Erwin also trained with the DEA as a Basic Narcotics and Dangerous Drug Law Enforcement Officer and the FBI as a Hazardous Device Technician. In 1995 he moved to Tallahassee Florida and accepted a job with the Florida Division of Emergency Management working in the State Warning Point. He was later promoted to the response position of Dep. Operations Chief for the State Emergency Response Team. In 2004 he went to work for the State Department of Health, Office of Emergency Operations as Liaison Officer to the Emergency Coordination Officer for ESF 8. In 2004 and 2005 Mr. Erwin worked in the State EOC during the hurricane seasons that devastated Florida, Alabama and Mississippi. During the response to Hurricane Katrina Jon worked to place the first Florida EMAC resources into the Mississippi EOC as ESF 8 Liaisons simultaneously placing the first Health and Medical assessment teams into the six coastal counties providing that vital link back to the State EOC from the disaster area. In his tenure with the Department of Health Jon has been asked to assume the roll of Interim Director of the Department of Health Office of Emergency Operations and Emergency Coordination Officer for State ESF 8. While in this roll Jon helped coordinate the response to the H1N1 outbreak and the Health and Medical response to Operation Haiti Relief. He is currently a Planning Consultant with the Florida Department of Health and supervises the Logistics Unit within the Bureau of Preparedness and Response In his response roll Jon is the Alternate Emergency Coordination Officer for ESF 8
