Background

About Jon Etter

I'm a full-time English teacher and part-time writer and would like to continue in both of those fields until retirement or death, preferably in that order, although the idea of posthumous writing does sound kind of cool. I've worked as a high school English teacher since 1996, first at Sheboygan North High School and now at Wauwatosa East High School, as well as a three-year stint teaching summer school in Port Washington. I'm also currently an adjunct professor of English at University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, teaching college credit composition and literature courses as part of their College Credit in High School program in partnership with the Wauwatosa School District. In addition, I've served as a student radio station manager (WSHS 91.7 FM in Sheboygan), forensics coach, Gender & Sexuality Alliance advisor, faculty advisor for a number of other student organizations, and adjunct professor for University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Lakeland College, and Silver Lake college as part of their dual credit partnerships with North High. Before that I worked as a teaching assistant, tutor, Presidential Scholars Adviser, Honors Program Advisor, and comic book store clerk while studying at Illinois State University, and I spent three years working at my local library as a page/dogsbody while in high school. As a writer, I've written novels (two of which have won awards), short stories, poetry, comedy sketches, and journalistic pieces. Please go to for a full list of my published works.
