About Jon Fulbright

More than 18 years progressive experience in research and project management roles, including extensive experience in initiating and planning independent research projects as well as designing quantitative experimental and observational projects with small groups to international collaborations. I consistently resolve research issues involving physics, empirical science, and mathematics through process improvement planning, program coordination, and cultivation of strong industry relationships. I possess excellent lecture and presentation skills along with communication among fellow researchers to coordinate and complete projects in a timely manner. Specialties: Technical team coordination, remote sensing (both imaging and spectral data), calibration, validation, verification of data to requirements; data product quality maturity through mission lifecycle; algorithm development and management; cloud migration of product generation; analysis of large data sets; structured, quantitative problem solving; experimental design; scientific programming in C, Python, FORTRAN, awk and other languages; statistical analysis. A given day involves such action as responding to GOES-R science teams or data customer (such as the National Weather Service or the Space Weather Prediction Center) inquiries of data anomalies, using my deep knowledge of the data processing system to develop a fix. Sometimes I (or team members) do the fix ourselves, saving schedule and resources, or we pass the work to the appropriate vendor. I also guide and review the the product maturity reviews created by the science teams as the data products advance through their lifecycles. But any given day could involve a novel issue or inquiry from some other part of the GOES-R Program, requiring responsivity and drawing on our systems knowledge to resolve. The GOES-R Program finished in April 2025, so now as part of GeoXO, I'm looking forward to the next generation of NOAA weather satellites. This work involves reviewing data product studies of the new instrumentation, assisting with the migration of the data processing to the cloud, and helping the NOAA operations teams with various GOES-R issues. I kept my scientific and programming skills sharp by working with data directly for anomaly response and inventing new calibration/validation techniques. Most recently, I have created a large database of GOES-R off-Earth observations of stars and planets for radiometric calibration.
