About Jon Grabbe

Though my college degree is in Business, Finance, I've always had a propensity toward computers, their use by myself and others. Soon after graduating, and entering the real world, I realized my talents and skills were more suited to a career in using and helping others use computers and their needed software. Though I was introduced to computing early on, in High School, when my parents gifted me with a Commodore Vic 20, and later a C64, with these machines I began teaching myself computer programming (using BASIC), it wasn't until after college that I realized I could, in fact, have a career doing what I loved to do. I began teaching through a company named New Horizons Computer Learning Center, where I was introduced to many various software and networking systems solutions, having to learn these so that I could then teach. I also learned and developed my own processes to prepare for and teach courses to students of various experience and competency levels. Though I was happy with teaching commercial software, I began teaching certain programming courses, such as JavaScript and Perl. Later, when Java programming courses were introduced, I took on the task of studying for and becoming certified as a Java Programmer which allowed me to teach Java Programming courses. This eventually led to working for Sun Microsystems in their Educational Services as a Java Technolgies Trainer. Eventually, I felt the need to apply some of the knowledge I gained through preparing for and then teaching these various technologies and software products to the "real world". I began working for a company named PHG Technolgies, a small startup company with an in-house development team, providing a patient identification and document workflow solution for hospitals across the United States. Being a fairly small company, though I had a specific job title of "Implementation and Support Specialist", my role grew and morphed as the technical challenges and business needs of the company changed. PHG Technologies was eventually acquired by GBS Corp, primarily a document printing company, but with interests in the software created by PHG Technologies. My role with GBS Corp hasn't changed much, since our team is still small, meaning my role continues to grow and morph as needs present themselves. I have taken part in Development efforts and Project Management as well as Training, Customer Service and Technical Support. I consider myself to be detail oriented, technically adept, an analytical problem solver and good communicator.
