About Jon Hopper

Jon is a senior biotechnology / medical device industry executive with previous experience as a surgeon and government regulator. He qualified in medicine in the UK in 1987 and trained as an Orthopaedic and Trauma surgeon, with additional experience in Accident and Emergency, Sports Medicine and Trauma Intensive Care. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1992. He served on the Medical Commission of the British Amateur Gymnastics Association as a team doctor. He was one of the founder members of the West Midlands Central Accident and Resuscitation Emergency Team, a charitable organisation providing immediate medical care to the population of the West Midlands of England. In 1997 he joined the Senior Civil Service as a senior medical officer at the UK's Department of Health, regulating medical device manufacturers and advising senior government officials and Ministers of State. Jon attained the degree MBA (Health Executive) from the University of Keele 2003 In 2006 Jon joined the medical device industry. He has worked in various Medical Affairs and Clinical Development Executive roles for ConvaTec, Stryker, Osiris Therapeutics and Ferring Pharmaceuticals. Jon was appointed Chief Medical Officer at Vericel Corp, in August 2018 and leads the Clinical Development, Clinical Operations, Pharmacovigilance and Medical Affairs functions.
