About Jon Pedersen

As Dean Dr. Pedersen provides leadership and growth in research, teaching, outreach and innovative programs supporting faculty, staff and students. Driven by opportunities to inspire those who have a passion to serve children, families, schools and communities, he provides a focus on communication, participation, and developing collaborations and coalitions in order to achieve college goals including the development of faculty skills; building participation and involvement in the leadership process; and, supporting the empowerment of individuals. In his leadership role he has overseen: • The establishment of the Office of Research and Innovation, encompassing the Research Institute, the Office of Grants and Contracts, and the Associate Dean for Research and Innovation • The establishment of the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and the Office of Student Diversity and Engagement and the Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion • A 33% increase in number of grant submissions • A 48% increase in number of internal research grant submissions • A doubling of the amount of spendable grant money • A $5 million grant for the Carolina Family Engagement Center and a $5 million TQP grant • The awarding of a USC Excellence Initiative to support the Accelerator for Learning and Leadership for to transform communities and develop innovations in teacher preparation • A growth in the average journal impact factor across faculty peer-reviewed publications from 1.44 (2017) to 2.33 • The establishment new research initiatives - Bilingualism Matters and the SC Center for Assistive Technology and Educational Outreach Active in multiple national/international organizations, he has held many leadership roles including president of the Association for Science Teacher Education (ASTE).
