Over the last 22 years, I have worked in a governance environment at both Curtin University and Edith Cowan University (ECU) demonstrating extensive experience in and knowledge of university structures, policy and processes, and corporate governance practices. In my current position of Director, Secretariat and Council Secretary at Curtin University, I am responsible for facilitating the University’s corporate decision-making processes by providing advice to the Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor on the corporate governance of the University and provision of a reliable and confidential secretariat service for the University Council and its committees, including Academic Board. Additionally, I have five years experience working in a public policy development setting. During that period I worked on the following projects demonstrating proven research and analytical skills; and excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills: Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission (HREOC)- co-ordination of a public inquiry into freedom of religion and belief in Australia, the final report of which was tabled in Federal Parliament Office of Film and Literature Classification (OFLC)- management of the third stage of the ‘Computer Games and Australians Today’ research project- facilitation of community assessment panels; and - review of the guidelines on the classification of publications Australian Broadcasting Authority (ABA)- negotiation of an internet industry code of practice- negotiation of memoranda of understanding with the State and Territory police forces on protocols governing the exchange of information about illegal Internet content; and - development of the Restricted Access Systems Declaration (No. 1) which was tabled in Federal Parliament I have also performed tutoring duties for the unit ‘Critical Thinking’ which formed part of the then philosophy program at ECU demonstrating the ability to teach at a tertiary level.
