About Jon Ransom

I have over fifteen years of teaching experience and 10 years of education management experience. Most recently I was the general manager of a company of more than 50 employees. Though the bulk of my experience has been in education, I have always accommodated other side projects in addition to my full time job. As a result, I have been the founder of, consulted for, or directly managed eight start-ups for a range of markets from International Kindergartens to online sales to social development while nurturing a hobby coffee roastery into a fairly successful small business. Notably, I have rare experience that comes with being a foreign entrepreneur and manager in China: navigating Chinese culture, managing an English/Chinese environment, working to overcome barriers related to Chinese bureaucracy and laws, project management in China, and countless other challenges related to this experience. I am interested in the dynamics of people management, and firmly believe in the power of effective communication. After 17 years in China, I am bringing my passion and experience back to Canada for a new adventure. A note about my coffee roastery: Ransom's Coffee was founded in 2006 in Guangzhou, China. What started as a hobby, turned into a moderately busy side job roasting for over 200 clients and a local restaurant chain. When I'm not roasting coffee, I am busy building community with my wife and kids.
