Background
About Jon Sen
I have worked with some of the most diverse, challenging and vulnerable students across London, and also delivered training, mentoring and support in other settings in England and Wales in order to help them do the same. My work with young people with barriers to their education – whether SEND, SEMH, or significant circumstances outside of their education setting – spans from Reception to vulnerable young adults up to the age of 20, taking place in Alternative Provision, home and offsite tuition across a number of Local Authorities, SEND schools. a specialist school for pupils with therapeutic and psychiatric needs, and Post-16. I have co-ordinated and delivered targeted interventions in primary and secondary schools. My key roles have been Head of a 1:1 tuition service and Manager of an Alternative Provision for 14-16 year old students with challenging behaviour and Additional Needs, successfully leading the provider through the application process to be recognised by OfSTED as an independent Special School. I have been Acting Head of a KS3 Pupil Referral Unit (where I managed the setting through a successful OfSTED), and SENDCo/Assistant Head for Inclusion in a secondary school. I have been the Designated Safeguarding Lead in all of these posts. Having joined the NSPCC as a Safeguarding Adviser, I am now a Childline Supervisor, which has supported my work as a trainer/consultant and increased my offer to schools. I have designed and delivered courses including Safeguarding Training for Designated Staff Leads, Working with SEND, Safeguarding: Online and Mobile Technologies, Behaviour Management for Newly Qualified Teachers, Positive Behaviour Management for Support Staff, and Working with Self Harm and Eating Disorders. I have most recently developed materials for staff new to working with Autism, and Managing Challenging Behaviour in Early Years.
