About Jon Sylvester
I have been teaching Special Education in a variety of settings now for 28 years in the state of Maine. I have been fortunate to work with many dedicated professionals in the field that have served as my mentors over these years. My current and favorite professional role is Special Education Teacher in a Applied Academics classroom. Over the past twenty-five years, I have been encouraged to refine programming in this program for a small but growing population of students with a variety of personal, educational and emotional needs. I focus on each student as an individual, according to their unique challenges, and celebrate their strengths. I am dedicated to bringing current and best practice into the classroom and applying the information I have gained from master’s classes at University of Southern Maine and current trends in education trainings. Working with these students makes me realize that everyone can learn and apply new knowledge in some way that is meaningful to them when provided the tools to succeed.
