About Jon Takiff

I currently teach high school media arts classes including graphic design, web programming, video editing, and sound design at The Beekman School in New York City. I also work as a technical manager for Beekman. In addition, I freelance as a web developer and technical project manager. I previously ran a software consultancy and have built sites and applications for companies including Madison Square Garden, Digital Ocean, Greenbrier Companies, and Pearson Education. In my fifteen years of web development and project management work, I found building eLearning modules to be the most rewarding, since it encapsulates my strong interest in design, management, and working closely with both technical and non (or less) technical people. I also enjoy the focused, limited scope of eLearning design and development (compared to some of the large scale tech projects I've worked on). Furthermore, I consider myself a strong writer and communicator, and would love to be able to utilize these skills as part of my shift towards a more design-centric career. My interests in technology have definitely moved towards design in recent years - this has partly been inspired by teaching high school graphic design classes. After 15+ years in web design and development and two years in the classroom, instructional design feels like a perfect fit for my skillset. I am actively seeking employment in this space.
