About Jon Totten
Modelling is my passion. I am a registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) and award-winning educator with a passion for modelling, teaching, and improving engineering systems through CFD and simulation. My research expertise lies in multiscale modelling of chemical engineering processes, using MATLAB and computational fluid dynamic software, including OpenFOAM, ANSYS Fluent, and COMSOL. I currently serve as an Instructor in the Department of Process Engineering and Applied Science at Dalhousie University, where I’ve developed and taught a wide range of undergraduate courses, including- Process Simulation & Plant Design - Product and Process Design I & II - Separation Processes I & II - Transport Phenomena I’ve been recognized with multiple Chemical Engineering Teaching Appreciation Awards and the Faculty of Engineering Teaching Award, and have supervised numerous teaching assistants and visiting students. I’m actively involved in faculty committees and initiatives such as the EDIA Committee. Prior to academia, I held engineering roles at Cenovus Energy, Syncrude, and the Town of Antigonish, where I gained experience in well integrity, hydroprocessing, field operations, and municipal engineering. Whether it's in the classroom, in code, or in a collaborative team, I’m driven by a desire to build meaningful, data-driven solutions and help others do the same.
