About Jon Windness

I’ve served as an FBI Special Agent for 20 years and spent the majority of those years investigating cybercrime. I currently specialize in investigating cyber intrusions and fraud that affect the financial sector. I’m very familiar with the cyber underground, OSINT techniques, specialized tactics used to steal massive sums of money, cryptocurrency, and various money laundering techniques. On a normal day, I’m following digital breadcrumbs to identify, locate, and apprehend international cyber threat actors. In my job, I get the greatest satisfaction from disrupting the latest cyber scheme, helping a victim, and bringing responsible threat actors to justice. When I’m not investigating cybercrime, I’m usually talking about cybercrime. I’m an established keynote speaker who regularly presents on the many ways cyber threat actors defeat MFA, conduct BECs, gain unauthorized access to online bank accounts, initiate wire transfers from victim accounts, and launder stolen funds. I’ve unearthed several of the latest cyber schemes that target the financial industry and presented these schemes to large audiences at ACAMS, FS-ISAC, NCFTA, ACFE, Infragard, and various financial institutions. I was selected by FBI-HQ to present to numerous international law enforcement agencies on emerging cyber threats for the purpose of developing a cohesive global response. I’ve also appeared multiple times in the media where I helped protect the general public by relaying the latest cyber threats. In my free time, you’ll usually find me with my family at various youth sporting events, enjoying a round of golf with friends, or snowboarding somewhere in the Rocky Mountains.
