I am now in the critical phase of my PhD, having but a few months left to write up, finalise the last experiments and trying not to get too distracted by implementing new ideas. I spend the last 3 years setting up photoacoustic test stands, designing and testing microelectromechanical systems (MEMS). These MEMS devices help in miniaturising both the short pulsed laser sources as well as the piezoelectric ultrasound transducers used in photoacoustics. When I'm not in the lab I spend my time optimizing my test stand's automation code (LabVIEW), processing acquired data or on chatting to colleagues on the odd coffee break.
