About Jonathan Bietsch

Organic chemistry is my passion. My academic career provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully teach in an academic setting, conduct novel scientific research, and collaborate with other scientists in the field of organic chemistry to advance our collective knowledge and outcomes. My experience as a Doctoral candidate at Old Dominion University (ODU) versed me well in developing chemical reactions, carrying out purifications, and characterizing final research for self-assembling carbohydrate derivatives and photochromic molecules. I have demonstrated sustained commitment and excellence in the chemistry laboratory and consider that setting as a second home. I am an excellent communicator when building technical presentations, collaborating with other scientists, and authoring research publications. I consistently demonstrate a professional work ethic and have earned a respected reputation for my reliability, organizational skills, dedication to research requirements, and responsibility. Utilizing critical thinking, problem solving, and deep dives into literature enabled me to achieve synthesis of targeted molecules over the past six years. Although I have completed my full-time academic life, I continue to work as a Post-Doc at ODU completing several organic chemistry papers for publication in scientific journals with my academic mentor. Joining a research team outside the academic community will enable me to contribute immediately while simultaneously gaining greater levels of experience in developing new scientific methodology and applying those methodologies in the large-scale synthesis of targeted molecules. My professional goal is to transition my academic experience into a career where I expand my knowledge and capabilities as an organic chemist in an industrial setting.
