About Jonathan Bowling

With over 7 years of experience in technical operations and event production, I am a passionate and proficient Technical Director at Illinois State University. I manage all aspects of technical and production support for department facilities, ensuring high-quality and safe delivery of events and services. I have a strong background in lighting, sound, and audiovisual design and installation, as well as rigging, stage management, and project management. I am also a proficient computer technician, with skills in software and hardware troubleshooting and repair. I enjoy collaborating with diverse teams and clients, and I am committed to fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and inclusion within the department. In my current role as Technical Director, I manage all phases of event production, from planning and design to execution and evaluation. Additionally, I oversee the creation, implementation, and documentation of all production processes and procedures, as well as the specification and installation of technical equipment. I also hire, train, supervise, and schedule all departmental full-time and union staff while overseeing the hiring process of student staff, ensuring all employees adhere to departmental expectations and specifications. I have successfully led and supported numerous events, such as concerts, theatrical performances, and other live shows, delivering exceptional customer service and technical quality. I have also designed and programmed lighting installations throughout the departmental facilities, enhancing the aesthetic and functional value of the spaces.
