About Jonathan C. Borg

Throughout his career, Jonathan has seamlessly applied academic expertise to industrial applications. He serves as a Professor and Leader of the Concurrent Engineering Research Unit within the Department of Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering at the University of Malta, where he actively contributes to research and education in engineering product design and development. In this role, he has supervised numerous engineering students at the Bachelor's, Master's, and PhD levels, many of whom now hold key positions in industry or academia. His expertise is regularly sought by the European Commission's Research Executive Agency (REA) and the European Research Council (ERC), where he has served as an independent evaluator, reviewer, and, in some cases, even as a Panel Chair. In addition to his academic role, Jonathan is the Founder of MECB Ltd, a technical consultancy bureau that helps organizations exploit methodologies and digital tools to drive innovation and operational efficiency. Through MECB’s multi-disciplinary team, he assists organisations to innovate and minimise waste, whether in time, money, materials, labor, energy, or other resources by implementing smarter processes and exploiting relevant technologies. This blended career path has provided Jonathan with a unique multidisciplinary perspective, benefiting both his students and industrial clients. Passionate about digital transformation, concurrent engineering, and sustainable innovation, he is committed to bridging the gap between academia and industry to create real-world impact, this also reflected in his role as Chair of the Faculty of Engineering's, Industrial Advisory Board (IAB) for the last four years.
