About Jonathan Callanan

Becoming the go to person is something that I continually strive for; being better than who I was yesterday. A professor of mine always preached the importance of “becoming the go to person” by being reliable and by giving more than you think you can give. Being a lover of sports and a practitioner in the art of jiu jitsu, I understood this message very well. During my time at Mount Saint Mary College, I achieved many things including: earning a high GPA of 3.79, an internship at a tax firm (2017 sweeping tax code change), holding a bookkeeping position for a non-for-profit, as well as playing collegiate baseball. Graduating a semester early, I enrolled in the accelerated 1 year graduate program at California Baptist University. Here is where I faced the most adversity but reached new heights in entrepreneurship, wellness and spirituality where I started new projects as well coming out on top in multi county fitness competitions. In addition my discipline earned me the school’s 5:14 Daniel Award for placing top accountant in the graduate program. After graduating with my MBA I accepted a position at Central Hudson Gas & Electric as they had voids that I was able to help fill. Working at Central Hudson taught me a lot including data analytics and operating a computer informations system where I controlled the check register and administered about in refund checks. In the meantime I began practicing mixed martial arts and slowly and surely worked my way up the ranks to become a youth/adolescent coach/trainer in various martial arts, but predominantly Jiu Jitsu. Not only do I want to develop and better my own career, but I want to help others who share my passion. My passion and dreams led me to accepting a position as a high school accounting teacher in Hialeah, Florida. My best friend convinced me to move in with him and try education, I bought in and it has been the best decision of my life. Teaching provides an opportunity to devote yourselves to others and having such a direct and strong tie between your hard work and the progression of others motivates me like no other earthly force. Entrepreneurship and fitness/mma is still a part of my life every day and the next challenge I am taking on is to sit for and pass all parts of the CPA exam to officially become a licensed accountant. Whenever I go, I continuously strive to be the “go to person” in any organization or environment I happen to be. Reliability and discipline, that is me.
