About Jonathan Chan

I'm part of the Innovation and Partnerships management team at CMHC and am currently focused on Innovation Strategy and Innovation Enablement. I really enjoy playing in the space that connects the big picture view with practical execution and setting innovation teams up for success. As a divisional "utility player", I can contribute to a wide range of innovation-related work and am known for being able to hit the ground running. On the enablement side, my key roles have been facilitating & leading divisional strategy sessions to give our teams strategic direction, figuring out how to right-size corporate governance so it is no longer a barrier to divisional work, and ensuring that our portfolio of projects is made up of complementary initiatives that have compounding impact and meaningfully contribute to achieving our goals. On the execution side, I excel at exploring the causes of problems, leading teams in the identification and de-risking of innovative solutions using a wide variety of methodologies, and pushing for scalable projects that have a national impact. While innovation can be a bit of a buzzword, housing in Canada is full of complex problems that won't be solved by our traditional products, programs, or policies. The innovation and partnerships division is a key part of ensuring that everyone in Canada has a home that meets their needs. With housing being the cornerstone of so many important facets of people's lives, it's critical that the work we do is effective and that the entire ecosystem works together to get there. What do I have to offer outside of my day job? I have a natural aptitude for seeing how things fit together and often find myself identifying and removing barriers before they start causing problems. I'm a gifted facilitator that can effectively shape the knowledge and experience of people in the room into decisions, ideas, and results. My ability to see the big picture is complemented by an understanding of ground-level implementation and I love working at the intersection of government, business, and community.
