Background
About Jonathan Choquette
I am a Conservation Biologist and Herpetologist with over 15 years of experience working with Canadian herpetofauna in a professional, academic and volunteer capacity. I'm currently Wildlife Preservation Canada’s Lead Biologist on the Ojibway Prairie Reptile Recovery Program. I earned a B.Sc. in Biology (2007) and a Master’s in Landscape Architecture (2011), both from the University of Guelph, and a Ph.D. in Boreal Ecology - Conservation and Restorative Ecology (2024) from Laurentian University. I've had the opportunity to work with several species of ‘at risk’ Canadian reptiles, including Butler’s Gartersnakes, Eastern Foxsnakes, Five-lined Skinks, Lake Erie Watersnakes, Eastern Massasaugas, Prairie Rattlesnakes, Spiny Softshell Turtles, Spotted Turtles, Wood Turtles, and Queen Snakes. I have successfully completed contracts for several agencies including Environment and Climate Change Canada, Huron Stewardship Council, and the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry. I am a current member of the Canadian Herpetological Society and served on the Board of Directors from 2014 – 2017. I have also held memberships in the Society for Conservation Biology and the Society for the Study of Amphibians and Reptiles. My professional goal is to contribute with honesty and integrity to the recovery of endangered reptile populations in Canada.
