About Jonathan Doherty

I am an experienced international school educator, working as both as Head of Music and High School Coordinator at Asia's oldest international school in Yokohama. As High School Coordinator, I lead various academic and administrative processes across the High School. This includes scheduling internal and external examinations, managing invigilation/proctoring logistics, creating special timetables, overseeing IB course selection, analysing data to design the course menu and timetable, and coordinating the academic recommendation process. I also serve as a liaison for the pastoral team of homeroom teachers, supporting new and returning students during academic transitions and throughout the school year. In addition, I teach IB and IGCSE Music and lead the Music programme. I manage a team of 13 instrumental teachers and administer the school’s prestigious Trinity College London examination programme, the largest of its kind in Japan. I oversee the school’s Jazz programme at both Middle and High School levels, arranging regional Jazz festivals and coordinating collaborative events, such as those with the Tokyo College of Music. Previously, I worked at one of the world's top-performing international schools for Nord Anglia Education in Shanghai. I am fluent in French and hold an HSK4 qualification (upper intermediate / B2 level) in Mandarin Chinese, currently working toward HSK5. I also speak basic Japanese. As a freelance musician, I have performed as a keyboard player at major festivals, theatres, and venues across the UK and internationally, collaborating with award-winning and critically acclaimed artists. I compose library music for screen and produce soundtracks for film. My solo electronic project Coracle has received national radio play on the BBC and has been released on several independent dance labels. I hold a Master’s degree in Music Production from Leeds College of Music, a First-Class BA in Music with French from Royal Holloway, University of London, and a PGCE in Music (with Distinction/Outstanding QTS) from the University of Huddersfield.
