Jonathan J. Dunn is a Chambers ranked construction lawyer, Fellow in the Construction Lawyers Society of America, and principal at SMTD Law LLP, a boutique law firm with offices in Irvine (Orange County), Los Angeles, and Oakland, California, and Phoenix, Arizona. He concentrates his practice in construction law, government and public contracts, complex commercial law matters, real estate, collections, debtor-creditors’ rights and bankruptcy. With over 25 years experience in complex matters, especially those that arise out of construction disputes and defaults on federal, state (public works) and private construction projects in the United States, Mr. Dunn has negotiated and gone to trial in contract performance, administration, delay, impact, disruption, inefficiency, extra-work, design scope, errors and omissions, differing site conditions, false claims, bid-protests, subcontractor substitutions, and other construction claims. Mr. Dunn also has numerous successes in complex commercial and bankruptcy / creditor, collections involving fraud, fraudulent transfers, trusts and other asset-shielding devices, bankruptcy, financial workouts and preferences, indemnity, and prejudgment remedies (writs of attachment, restraining orders, injunctions). A frequent lecturer and speaker, Mr. Dunn is former Chair of AGC-California, Legal Advisory Committee and a member of IR Global. Before practicing law, Mr. Dunn was an active participant in his family’s construction business.
