About Jonathan Ebenezer

I am a recent graduate of Cornell University where I graduated with a Master of Engineering in Biomedical Engineering, and a Bachelor of Arts in Biological Sciences and Archaeology. I am currently working as a medical scribe while applying to medical school. During my MEng and undergraduate studies, I worked in the Lis Lab where I completed an Honors Thesis studying the real time dynamics of the transcription factor DSIF and its role as both a pausing and elongation factor in Proximal Promoter Pausing. Using live cell imaging of Drosophila Melanogaster salivary glands and molecular tags, I worked to better understand the dynamics of DSIF in relation to other transcription factors and Pol II. During my MEng, I worked on developing a protocol to use the drug HALO-PROTAC3 to degrade tagged proteins in vivo in Drosophila Melanogaster salivary glands through the ubiquitination pathway. I also completed an Honors Thesis in Archaeology, where I researched regional identity in Ptolemaic Egypt at the sites of Athribis and Naukratis. Using terracotta figurines to study material culture, I worked to understand how syncretic representations of the deity Harpokrates could be used to reflect and mold the identities of Greeks and Egyptians living in Ptolemaic Egypt. I argued that one's interpretation of a specific figurine could be tied to their own identities and that these figurines therefore had multiple interpretations.
