About Jonathan Franz

Dr. Jonathan Franz has over 40 years of experience in higher education as a professor of psychology and as an academic and student life administrator. His first position teaching psychology was at St. Andrews College (now St.Andrews University) in North Carolina, where he quickly moved into leadership roles as Department Chair and chair of the college's first-year experience program. After receiving tenure as an associate professor, he was appointed Associate Dean for Faculty Development. After three years, he then took on the role of Dean of Students for an additional three years. He then held three other academic leadership roles in succession: five years as VPAA and Dean of the Faculty at Newberry College in South Carolina; four years as Provost at Tusculum College in Tennessee; and ten years as Dean of the Regional Center in Rochester, New York, at SUNY Empire State College. He now serves as Professor of Psychology at Empire State University teaching courses in biological psychology and neuroscience. Administrative experience includes outcomes assessment, faculty development, student development, adult higher education, accreditation, general education reform, program development, and first-year experience leadership. Teaching experience includes expository writing, Informal writing and oral communication, and courses in Introductory Psychology, Research Methods, Statistics, Human Learning, Sensation & Perception, Biological Psychology, Developmental Neuroscience, Cognitive Neuroscience, The Aging Brain and Alzheimer's Disease.
