Dr. Jonathan Stine is a Global Clinical Program Lead (Global Development Senior Medical Director) in Late Cardiovascular, Renal, and Metabolism (CVRM) at AstraZeneca, where he helps shape and execute global clinical development strategies to advance innovative therapies for liver disease, including metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). In this role, Dr. Stine leverages deep expertise in hepatology, medical strategy, and cross-functional collaboration to drive the development of transformative treatments that address unmet needs in liver health and metabolic disease. An internationally recognized Key Opinion Leader in MASLD, Dr. Stine has authored over 130 peer-reviewed publications and played a central role in the development of multinational clinical guidelines. His research has been supported by the NIH, the American Cancer Society, and the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases. Prior to joining AstraZeneca, he served as Associate Professor of Medicine and Public Health Sciences at Penn State Health, where he led a multidisciplinary research and clinical program focused on MASLD. He remains a Clinical Professor of Medicine in the Penn State Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology. Dr. Stine has served as the MASLD consultant to the American College of Sports Medicine’s Exercise is Medicine initiative and was co-chair of the International Roundtable on MASLD and Physical Activity. His thought leadership has been featured in ABC News, NPR, STAT, and Yahoo, and he has been named one of the World’s Top 2% Scientists by Stanford University since 2023 and a Castle Connolly Top Doctor since 2020. At AstraZeneca, Dr. Stine is dedicated to translating cutting-edge science into clinical impact, advancing programs that improve outcomes for patients with liver and metabolic disease through data-driven innovation and global collaboration. He continues to lead and contribute to Astra Zeneca's efforts in late-phase clinical trials in MASH and advanced chronic liver disease.
