About Jonathan Hackett

I dedicated 20 years to managing complex intelligence operations and special activities in dozens of countries across four continents. I finished my military career leading the only formal program teaching Marines how to work with allies and partners. I'm pivoting 90° into the legal profession, starting that journey at Yale Law School. In my spare time, I am the senior editor at the Irregular Warfare Initiative. IWI is a 501(c)3 providing thought leadership and dialogue in partnership with Princeton University's Empirical Studies of Conflict Project and the Modern War Institute at West Point. My new book released 7/1/25! Iran's Shadow Weapons: Intelligence Operations, Covert Action, and Unconventional Warfare explores how Iran's regime uses a shadowy foreign policy toolkit to strengthen elites at the expense of everyday Iranians.
