About Jonathan Hagos

Jonathan is a director of London based RIBA chartered practice, Freehaus. He is a RIBA Chartered Architect and a member of the ARB. Jonathan is an RIBA Conservation Registrant and has a wealth of experience delivering highly sensitive design interventions to historic contexts across the country and beyond. He was named as one of the Architects Journal's 40 under 40. Jonathan sits on the Quality Review Panel for the London Legacy Development Corporation and the Hackney Regeneration Advisory Group and was recently appointed as one of the Mayor of London's Design Advocates. Jonathan holds a Bachelor of Science and Post Graduate Diploma in Architecture from the Bartlett School of Architecture UCL and has over 19 years experience working in the construction industry. Alongside this Jonathan has a wealth of experience working in academia commencing in 2006 as subject coordinator at the Cambridge School of Visual and Performing Arts. Between 2010-14 Jonathan was associate lecturer on the MArch course and also an undergraduate Unit design tutor at Oxford Brookes University as well as on the first year degree and postgraduate studio Unit 16 at the University of Greenwich. Jonathan has also since held roles at the Cass, London Metropolitan University and Oxford Brookes assisting with the professional practice course and continues to act as a visiting critic at universities across the country. In 2021 he was appointed as an external examiner at Oxford Brookes for the undergraduate architecture and interior architecture courses. He has an ongoing design collaboration with his wife, artist Nina Gerada. Their work, executed through diverse media such as cartography, film, full-scale installations and architectural interventions, has featured in international design journals, publications, seminars and exhibitions, including 'Freedom of Speech in the City’ in Barcelona, Tokyo Designers Week, London Design Festival and the RMIT Kerb Journal. Their work as production designer and art director on the Feature Film Simshar was recognised with best production design award at the Peloponnesian Corinthian International Film Festival and was long-listed for the best foreign film at the 2015 Academy ARB registered Architect: 079986F RIBA Chartered Member: 10452817
