About Jonathan Harbour

Mechanical Design Engineer with over 5 years’ experience in the metrology and manufacturing industry. Highly skilled in modelling, simulating and drawing mechanical assemblies across a range of technologies including mill/turning, plastic moulding, laser-cutting and chemical-etching. Confident in data handling and process automation using Python and Excel with exposure to many other coding languages. Graduated from the University of Birmingham having achieved a First Class Honours degree in MEng Mechanical Engineering with Industrial Year. I was also awarded the Roger Chance Prize for highest overall scoring student in the final year of Mechanical Engineering. During my industrial year, I worked as a Manufacturing Technology engineer for 3M UK at a pharmaceutical and healthcare manufacturing plant in Loughborough. Alongside this, I sought professional work experience outside of university during my second year and worked as a Naval Engineer Summer Placement for BMT Defence Services Bath in the auxiliary systems department. I have also worked in the service industry as a Waiter for TGI Fridays. Outside academia I am a passionate musician with 20+ years experience playing improvised jazz piano and saxophone having played at weddings and raised money for charity through gigs. I also enjoy Lindy Hop swing dancing, Barbershop singing and Bouldering.
