About Jonathan Jones

I proudly consider myself a software developer. The specialized skills in data science, data engineering, and data architecture are always in support of software development. I believe that being a strong developer in today's world requires a lifetime of continual learning, and it requires individuals to excel at being a team players. I love how technology is always changing and evolving and how I can choose to develop my own interests. This is how I came to data science, in pursuit of what I find interesting. I am likely a bit unusual in the ranks of data science professionals in that I am largely self-taught. I piqued my interests with academic specializations on the Coursera platform. I've honed my skills in my profession, working to solve difficult problems in both the supervised and unsupervised learning settings. Through it all I have been fortunate to work with many talented individuals who have been kind enough to pass their knowledge onto me. I know that this path has left me with the practical skills to solve difficult data science problems. I can chart a course from concept to production because I have done it before. I also enjoy how modern software development is a team sport. The balance of individuality and team dynamics is super interesting to me and something I am always conscious of. Individually, I have been a contributing member of both functional and cross-functional teams. Much of my professional experience in data science has seen me leading a team of colleagues to solve big problems. I believe it is important to encourage individuals to pursue what they find interesting. The most productive people are the ones who are interested and engaged. We all have our specializations and areas of interest, but I like to encourage people to step outside of their comfort zone at times, to pursue paths related to the problem at hand that lead to growth. I believe that these principles are how you build strong teams and strong team members. I find that I am a natural and effective leader and mentor. I enjoy the challenges of leadership, building consensus, fostering interests, and teams that are generally excited to build great software together. I look forward to my next opportunity. I desire a position that will challenge me professionally. I am seeking out interesting domains where I can continue to learn, to grow my technical skills, and be actively engaged every day. I am proud of the fact, and I firmly believe, that throughout my professional career I have left every position and every company in a position better than I found it.
