About Jonathan Lambert
Jonathan’s time at the National College of Ireland has seen him head the development of the college’s Mathematics Support Service. The primary goal of Jonathan’s work is toward the removal of mathematics as a barrier to progression, for our students, within third level education. The support provided through Jonathan’s service is primarily around service mathematics and in particular, mathematics relevant within the fields of Business and Computing. Jonathan lectures in the fields of Business and Computing; lecturing at both postgraduate and undergraduate levels. He has lectured extensively in the areas of Programming Languages and Statistics, focusing primarily on Data Structures and Algorithms; Advanced Programming; Quantitative Methods and Research Methodologies. Jonathan’s role has also included managing a facet of the college’s Student Support Unit, providing support to up to students, which includes: Mathematics Development and Support; Student Retention; Medical Services and Support for Learning and Teaching. Jonathan’s current research area is around Student Access, Progression, and Retention within Higher Education. With the research focusing on identifying the overarching factors that influence student engagement and academic performance. Leveraging these factors from data on student prior academic performance; student institutional commitment; student access route to Higher Education; grant and maintenance exposure; student programme of study, and associated modules; programme academic performance; student attendance; student socio-economic background; catchment areas; student uptake of student supports, academic and non-academic; student participation through students union; and finally, student participation outside the educational confines.
