About Jonathan Laumer

I am a highly motivated and driven individual as I have proved throughout my professional experience as a technician and engineer. I work well with others and have a quick comprehension and structured working methods. I am flexible and willing to learn. I studied electrical engineering at the University of Applied Science in Zurich, Switzerland after four years of practical experience as an electronics technician during the apprenticeship at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology. I have a strong background in electrical and computer engineering with a main focus on microcontroller programming and communication technology. After graduation in Switzerland, I moved to Canada and successfully completed a masters degree in applied sciences. I was working as a research assistant with a local company on several vapour deposition processes. I then continued in the same field of research into a Ph.D. program. Over this time, I had the opportunity to lead Master students in their research. I was able to provide them with a research topic and guided them in their work through one-on-one teaching. In May 2019, I successfully defended my doctoral dissertation and completed all requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. In addition, over 2 years, I gained industrial leadership and management experience at Benchmark Botanics Inc. by leading a small team of 10 people. In the position as Operations Manager, I gained valuable project management experience. It is my strong intention to foster a respectful environment, encouraging teamwork and open communication. More recently, I had been hired on contract by the Okanagan College as a College Professor to teach in the Mechanical Engineering Technology department. I believe that I can pass on the passion of engineering and providing students an environment where they can learn and grow. It is my intention to make teaching my further career since it is the most rewarding and inspiring position I have ever had.
