About Jonathan Magness

Dr. Jon Magness has been working in pharmacy since 1998, and has been with Prime Therapeutics since 2013, where he has played a pivotal role in shaping the organization’s Medicare Part D clinical programs, market strategy, and operational programs. Currently the Vice President of Market Growth and Strategy for the Government Programs division, Jon leads the market growth, sales development, and product innovation efforts that support Prime’s Medicare Advantage (MAPD), Prescription Drug Plan (PDP), and Managed Medicaid plans. In this role, Jon is responsible for aligning Prime’s Medicare and Managed Medicaid strategy to the ever-evolving CMS guidance, client needs, and market dynamics. Jon also leads consultative engagements with clients, helping them navigate regulatory complexity, improve performance, and compete effectively in their local markets. With nearly 3 decades of experience in pharmacy and managed care, Jon is a lifelong advocate for the profession. He was previously the Residency Program Director for the nation’s most competitive accredited managed care residency and serves as an adjunct professor, guest lecturing in managed care and pharmacy leadership electives at the University of Utah. He presents the annual Utah Pharmacy Legislative Update CE for the past 13 years and recently served as Chapter President for the Utah Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) affiliate. He consults with Pharmacy Quality Alliance (PQA) where he contributes to the evolution of CMS Star Ratings methodology. Outside of Managed Care, Jon serves as the volunteer Pharmacy Director for Camp Hawkins, an annual camp for children with congenital heart disease. He holds a Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Utah and is most proud of his role as a husband and father to two boys.
