About Jonathan Malnar

I graduated with a BS in Mathematics with a Teaching Concentration, from Austin Peay State University, in 2004. I have 14 years of math teaching experience in high school and middle school, and have taught in both public and Catholic school. A few years ago, I left education to pursue jobs in other fields that I could draw on my math background for. Since leaving, I have worked at Huntington Learning Center, subbed, and have tutored students privately. Apart from teaching experience, I have experience in customer service. Around the time that I graduated from APSU, I had a job working as Night Dispatch for the local electric company, now CDE Lighband, and would also read meters for them. Nightly, I would field calls from customers who had their electricity disconnected. I would work with them, and coordinate with the workers in the field to get them reconnected. I would also be required to stay late, sometimes overnight, if there was a large outage due to a storm. I would have to field calls from concerned customers, relay their location to the technicians, and reassure them. For a few months, I worked with a marketing company, SCMG, that sold cell phones, Directv, and AT & T internet within a Sam's Club. That position taught me a great deal about building relationships with customers, and managers, when interacting face-to-face. I learned about the importance of product knowledge, and a student mentality in these types of positions. In 2021, I began working for with The Chicago Housing Authority, through a contracted company, Nan McKay and Associates. I worked with families in the Housing Choice Voucher program, determining their rent amounts, and recertifying them in the program. This was very rewarding work, as it was helping families keep stay in an apartment or home of their choice.
